The Photographs of Lillian May Cook (1895-1984)

Auntie LilThis CD-ROM contains photographs from an album formerly owned by Lillian May Winters (nee Cook). I knew her as "Auntie Lil".

The descriptions (where available) for the pictures were obtained from my grandmother Vera Gertrude Winters (née Cook, and sister to Lil) by my sister Janice Newton, and in several cases corrected by my mother Agnes Jean Newton (née Winters). Others had their locations identified with the assistance of members of an internet mailing list. Many, many pictures remain unidentified, and some may seem odd or irrelevant. There are also a considerable number of duplicated photos (in one instance from the same page of the album).

All photographs have however been included for the sake of completeness.

The pictures here are stored in a number of different formats, all accessed from the Home page:

The latter is useful in case you wish to produce an enlargement from the digital file, as it contains the most accurate representation of the originals that could still fit onto the CD-ROM. I'd be happy to re-scan any photograph at higher resolution on request.

Also included on the CD-ROM are some recordings made by Janice of my grandmother Vera. The quality of the recordings is from fair to poor but there may be some insights into the locations, people and activities from the photos.

It is my intention to one day make transcripts of these recordings, but I do have a day job, so that task remains 'on the back burner'.

Finally, accessed from the home page, there are some family tree charts in PDF files. The charts are quite incomplete and probably contain inaccuracies, particularly as regards the 20th century. Information that's been included is largely from personal recollections, including the abovementioned recordings. Naturally, I'd be very happy to receive corrections to this information at any time.

A note on the PDF files:

The descendant tree charts were printed in a particularly tiny font, so that each entire chart would fit onto a single A3 sheet. You will probably need to use the zoom button shown here to see the data adequately.
